ERGONOMIC, COMPLIANT PHARMA SOLUTIONS
BANAMINE® TRANSDERMAL
Merck Animal Health’s Banamine® Transdermal is a veterinary product that is used in a wide range of settings. Since the product is transdermal, the packages must provide the utmost protection from human exposure. Merck created a family of self-contained100ml, 250ml, and 1,000mlergonomic package designs that complement the way veterinarians and ranchers administer to a wide range of animals. A trapezoidal shaped handle in the larger 1 Liter package was ergonomically designed to accept handling by a large rancher’s glove. That handle is stiffened to reduce the possibility of squeezing additional product into the built-in measuring chamber while dispensing. Since the product tends to foam when agitated, a unique method of transfer from the body of the bottle to the measuring compartment with a specially designed delivery tube ensures dosing without foaming or coating the chamber measuring wall. Merck also achieved stringent dosing accuracy requirements. The FDA didn’t want veterinarians or ranchers to calculate dosing rates by calculating fluid ounces to animal weight, so a clever dosing scale in pounds (US market) and kilograms (EU market) achieved that goal by placing the animal weight on the chamber scale, accurately relating to the correct fluid ounce or milliliter dosage rate. The Banamine® Transdermal bottles have successfully been designed to meet the customer need from an accuracy, safety, and ergonomic standpoint
