Pressure Sensitive Liners

Closures, containers, and deco components bring together a complete packaging system. But what other contributions are often overlooked in creating successful packaging solutions? We will review one of those forgotten components in today's article: Pressure Sensitive Liners.

What Are Pressure Sensitive Liners Made Of?

Pressure-sensitive or PS22 Liners are polystyrene foam disks with an adhesive layer at the bottom. These liners are easily recognized by their printing on the top side of the disk: SEALED for YOUR PROTECTION.

What Do Pressure Sensitive Liners Do?

PS22 Liners are affixed to a container's opening, on a bottle's neck landing, residing within a closure, as is often the case. A bond is created between the liner and container by torquing the closure and applying pressure that activates the adhesive's bonding properties. It is ideal to maintain pressure for approximately 24 hours to ensure a secure bond is made around the landing. Once the closure is removed, the liner will remain in place, continuing the liner's protective function.

Single-Use Liners

Pressure-sensitive liners are only good for single-use functions. Once removed from a bottle's neck landing, the closure is unusable and should be discarded responsibly.

What Advantages Do Pressure Sensitive Liners Have?

A great advantage to utilizing Pressure Sensitive Liners is their lack of secondary equipment for application – a considerable cost and energy saver. All that's required is sufficient torque and time for proper adhesion.

What Products Do Pressure Sensitive Liners Work Well With?

Great for dry or solid products, these liners are ideal for glass and plastic containers in the food, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical markets. Pressure Sensitive Liners are not suitable for liquids.
