The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) describes chemically recycling as the following:

Chemical recycling is an alternative or complementary technology to current mechanical recycling processes (like sorting and shredding). Chemical recycling technologies use heat, chemical reactions, or both, to recycle used plastic into new plastic, fuel, or other chemicalsā€”creating a closed loop where plastics can be infinitely recycled to help reduce reliance on landfills.

O.Berk's heavy-wall PET moulds are manufactured with up to 98.5% chemically recycled PET resin with glass-like clarity almost indistinguishable from new PET. Percentages may vary based on customization, such as incorporating custom colors - inquire with our sales team for more information.

When it comes to mechanically recycled PET resin, these heavy-wall cylinders are in a class of their own in product integrity and clarity but with a less invasive process than chemically recycled plastic.

Mechanical recycling begins when a consumer disposes of a plastic product in a recycling bin. It is a circular process in which plastic materials undergo rigorous sorting and cleaning before being turned into flake or pellet feedstock, much like from which they came. PCR PET is produced through the mechanical recycling process.

Because mechanical recycling does not separate the recycled material to its chemical form, impurities and colorants may remain after the plastics have been turned into flakes or pellets. These impurities can cause discoloration in PET plastics depending on the percentage of mechanically recycled resin in the finished part.

The highest quality of the plastic materials allows us to deliver exceptional resin clarity components at a mechanically recycled PET concentration of 30%. Minimum order quantities begin at 25,000 for stock components with lead times under four weeks and custom package development under 15 weeks. Note that increased concentrations of translucent or opaque colors and PCR may impact the clarity of PET.
